Lysanna gasped, clutching her stomach, as she fully lost the link to her Progeny. The shards fell from her hands and crashed on the floor, breaking into the finest pieces of glass. A slight draft from the door drifted the tiny crystals around her ankles.

It was gone. Dead. Her last chance, forced out by sheer will. Lysanna breathed heavily, struggling to survive, but she knew she only had minutes left. A single tear fell down her nose and into the shining powder at her feet. She stared at it, trying to see herself, wishing for just one more chance. Maya had won.

But perhaps it was all for the best. Lysanna thought of the strained link she had had with the Progeny, after the Proxitol had been forced into its system. It had mutated to become something Lysanna never was. A monster. She had felt a hint of its intentions, but had pushed it away in the hope of another chance. But now she realized; if that organism had survived, it wouldn't have been like Lysanna at all. The mutation caused it to lose the most vital characteristics of herself; gentleness, trust, compassion, and so on… Another tear fell as she mourned its fall from grace.
Her breathing slowed, and she fell back into the wall and slid down. Lysanna gazed upwards, clasping her hands. She had run out of time.

Lysanna's life flashed through her mind. As she saw everything that she lived through, she began to realize why Maya held such hatred for her. Lysanna had always come first. It was only little things at first – schooling, games, et cetera – but it gradually grew and grew until Lysanna had received the greatest honor of all. The first of their kind to walk among humans. Maya had then become the enemy, trying her hardest to manipulate the humans to oppose any different life. Lysanna's hardness against Maya melted away as she saw the natural jealousy embedded in Maya. With the last of her strength she reached out to Maya's consciousness.

"I forgive you," she breathed. Her eyes closed.

An empty room, with a single door, two curtained windows, and a large box, besides which sits a lone corpse. She will be found and tossed away, perhaps many years from now, her cause of death a strange, mutative disease. No one will know her story.

Well, almost no one.
So I'm finally submitting to The Odyssey Project. Many people have told me so far that it's good, so crossing my fingers! You guys tell me what you think too :la:
